Best Breckenridge Realtor Advice: Fight Dry Air

Winter is the perfect time to bundle up in your favorite sweater and drink hot cocoa before your roaring fireplace. As much as you love all those activities, you might not love the dry air that comes along with the cold temperatures. If you use a forced air heating system, the air coming out of the vents is heated and dried out, which can in turn, dry out your home and your nose as well! The good news is that there are some simple ways to fight these uncomfortable conditions.

If you’re selling your home, or just want to be comfortable this winter, the Breckenridge Realtor team and I have come up with our best advice for avoiding super dry air in the winter.

Houseplants

Believe it or not, houseplants are actually air purifiers. They’re nature’s way of keeping the air clean. For this reason, you may want to put some well-placed plants throughout your home. Not only can they freshen up your indoor air, they’re also wonderful for adding bright, happy colors to your home any time of year.

Humidifiers

When the heat is running, the air can’t help but get dry. That’s just a reality. You can prevent moisture from being completely absorbed by turning on a humidifier. Whether you want to make one room or your entire house more comfortable, a humidifier definitely does the trick.

Plus, this trusty machine also has economic benefits. By using a humidifier, you can keep your thermostat lower and save money on your heating bills.

Vacuum

In the winter, allergens can really build up in your home. When your house is closed up for months, all of the dust settles into carpets and furniture, which makes breathing more difficult. When you vacuum, you can get rid of all of those unwanted materials in your home. Try to put your vacuum to work more often in the winter. You’ll feel better for it.

Open the Window

Of course, I don’t mean you should have all of your windows open when it’s freezing outside, but cracking a window on a warmer day can actually do your home some good. A little fresh air will make your home feel and smell fresher than it has since you closed it up. Let the stale air out whenever you have a chance. You’ll find it much easier to enjoy the winter months at home if you get a chance to freshen things up once in a while.

If you’re getting ready to sell your home, you’ll want a clean, presentable space that’s ready for showings whenever a buyer is ready to stop in. Plants, humidifiers and fresh air can all help when someone comes around for a showing. It’s a simple tip, but it’s one of the best a Breckenridge Realtor can offer.
