Breckenridge Realtor Tips: Furniture Arrangement

All of the closing documents have been signed. The former owners have vacated your new Breckenridge home. Now you’re faced with a gorgeous, but completely empty property. While it’s always exciting to purchase a new house, the transition to living in this unfamiliar space can be intimidating at the same time. my-living-room-585240-m

As a Realtor, I have seen a few clients feel overwhelmed by starting over in a new place. However, there are things you can do to make this all-important adjustment. Today we’ll address a few essential furniture arrangement tips to ensure your new house begins to feel like home.

Measure the Space

It’s always good to plan ahead when you’re moving so that you have an idea where to place your existing furniture and any new items you want to purchase. Be sure to measure each room. You might even want to put masking tape on the floor to map out the space that’s available.

In the process, don’t forget to think about how you’ll walk around and sometimes move furniture as you record your measurements. This can help you avoid having too many pieces of furniture in a single area.

Discover Focal Points

The first thing most experts will tell you is that there are no strict rules about where to put your furniture. It’s a very personal decision. A good rule of thumb is to find a focal point and arrange your belongings around it. Focal points include fireplaces or windows that show off incredible views. When you surround a room’s focal point, then you draw the eye in that direction. Then you truly have a well-designed room.

Make a Clear Path

There’s no question that rooms need to be inviting, but you also want to encourage people to enter each room and not feel crowded by too much furniture. For this reason, only include furnishings that provide comfort and storage capacity so that you have a logical place for items such as remote controls. Extra pieces of furniture that might get in the way of easily moving around can go somewhere else.

Inspire Conversation

The size of your living room doesn’t matter as long as you can set up seating that promotes great conversation and relaxation. If you position a couch and two chairs around a focal point, for example, you’re creating a special warmth that will make your new space cheerful and attractive.

Cut Out the Clutter

Rooms that are filled with clutter can take away from the appeal of a home. That’s why it’s best for you, your family and any guest that enters your home to see rooms that are free of unnecessary items. Moving into a new space is the perfect time to organize your belongings in such a way that they are neat and organized. You can do this by placing possessions such as framed photographs or candlesticks in a bookcase or on a hall table. That way, these touches may be appreciated without diminishing the beauty of your new space.

Enjoy Yourself

Figuring out how to arrange your furniture can actually be a fun experience. Enjoy the chance to carve out a new feel to each room and make them all your very own. It’s an adventure that signifies the entrance to a whole other chapter in your life.

Once you’ve got your furniture placed exactly how you wish, your Breckenridge property will feel like home in no time.

Want More Tips?

Coordinating an unfamiliar space can be a chore. You may not know where to start, but hopefully these tips will help you get started and help you find the perfect balance of what worked in your previous home and what works in the new one.
